CODFlip Dashboard: Reading RTO Savings

Every other CODFlip feature has had its own deep dive on this blog. The dashboards behind them have not, and they are arguably the part that matters most day to day: the difference between knowing CODFlip is running and knowing whether it is actually worth what it costs.

Why a Number You Can't See Is a Number You Can't Manage

We wrote in our RTO cost calculator post about why RTO cost tends to go uncalculated: it never shows up as a single line item, spread instead across shipping, inventory write-offs, and wasted acquisition spend. The same problem shows up in reverse once you turn on a COD-to-prepaid tool. A merchant can see nudges going out and orders converting, but without a dedicated view tying cost avoided to cost spent, there is no clean answer to the only question that actually matters: is this worth it?

The Dashboard: Is This Working At All?

The Dashboard is the activity-level view, scoped to the current billing cycle: Nudges Sent, Conversions, Conversion Rate, Revenue Recovered, COD Orders, Pending Nudges, and total message spend so far. It answers the first, most basic question a merchant checks: is the app actually sending nudges and are customers responding.

Revenue Recovered totals the order value of every converted order in the cycle, a useful top-line number, but one that does not yet net out what those conversions cost in incentive spend, which is exactly what the Savings Dashboard is for.

Analytics: What Actually Happened, Message by Message

Analytics drops down to the individual message level: a full log of every send, marked sent, converted, pending, or failed, alongside a usage-charges billing history. This is where a specific order's nudge history lives, useful when a merchant wants to check why a particular customer did or did not convert, rather than looking at aggregate cycle totals.

It is also the audit trail for billing. The Savings Dashboard: The Number That Actually Matters

The Savings Dashboard (Pro) is the one built to answer the only question that determines whether the whole exercise is worthwhile: for a given order, was the RTO cost avoided by converting it larger than what it cost to convert?

For each converted order, it shows the estimated RTO cost avoided (forward shipping, return shipping, and restocking, the same estimate covered in our RTO cost framework post), the incentive actually paid out to convert it, and the net savings between the two. A per-order “how was this calculated” view shows the inputs that went into that specific incentive, without exposing the underlying weighting formula, which stays proprietary for the same reason most companies do not publish their pricing algorithms.

Why order by order, not just a total: A single aggregate savings number can hide a lot. A store could show strong net savings overall while systematically overpaying on a handful of low-risk orders that never needed a discount at all. Seeing it order by order is what actually lets a merchant spot that pattern.

Reading It Like a P&L, Not a Vanity Metric

Conversion rate is the number most dashboards make loudest, and it is the wrong one to optimize in isolation. A high conversion rate achieved by offering an oversized discount on every order can still cost more, in incentive spend, than the RTO it prevents, which is a worse outcome than a lower conversion rate achieved with tightly-sized incentives. Net savings on the Savings Dashboard is the number that actually reflects this trade-off, since it nets incentive cost against RTO cost avoided rather than counting a conversion as a win regardless of what it cost to get there.

A Worked Example

For example. An order estimated to cost ₹220 if it RTOs converts to prepaid after a ₹60 WhatsApp incentive. The Savings Dashboard logs ₹220 in RTO cost avoided, ₹60 in incentive paid, and ₹160 in net savings for that single order. Across a billing cycle of 400 converted orders averaging similar economics, the Dashboard's Revenue Recovered figure captures the gross order value, while the Savings Dashboard's net savings total is the number that reflects what CODFlip actually contributed to the bottom line that cycle.
